The Bi-CAT ELISA (Research) is a two-plate enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative determination of epinephrine and norepinephrine in Biological Fluids and Tissue Homogenate. Each catecholamine is measured independently on separate plates. For Research Use Only. Not for Use in Diagnostic Procedures.
Epinephrine and norepinephrine (along with the third catecholamine, dopamine) act as hormones and neurotransmitters throughout the body. The release of both epinephrine and norepinephrine is associated with the "fight or flight response," which in effect, prepares the body for action by increasing heart rate, blood pressure and the mobilization of fuels for use as energy. In turn, the actions of epinephrine and norepinephrine suppress non-emergency processes, such as digestion.
