Asymmetric dimethylarginine is an analogue of L-arginine naturally found circulating in blood. ADMA is formed when methylated proteins are broken down in endothelial and tubular cells.
Elevated ADMA levels in the blood can inhibit NO synthase and are found in numerous diseases including cardio vascular disease, Diabetes mellitus, and chronic renal failure.
