Summary:

The CETP (Cholesteryl Ester Transfer Protein) ELISA is an enzyme immunoassay intended for the quantitative determination of human CETP in Serum and Plasma. CETP is a protein that facilitates the exchange of triglycerides and cholesterol esters between high density lipoproteins (HDL) and apoB-containing lipoproteins, such as very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), LDL and chylomicrons. There remains debate as to whether CETP is pro- or anti-atherogenic, but the mechanism underlying efforts to develop a pharmacological inhibitor of CETP activity rests on the assumption that decreasing CETP activity is protective becausing of the corresponding increase in circulating HDL. However, determining whether such therapeutic agents will be effective may depend on other aspects of the lipid profile and not on just CETP activity. Determination of the CETP concentration might be a complementary measure for CETP activity.
