The Cathepsin K ELISA is an enzyme immunoassay intended for the quantitative determination of human Cathepsin K in Serum or Cell Culture supernatants. Cathepsin K is a cysteine protease secreted by osteoclasts, and because it degrades the collagen matrix of the bone after removal of its mineral components, it plays a key role in tissue destruction, remodelling and cartilage breakdown. The high homology of Cathepsin K across various species (mouse 86%, rat 88%, pig 97%, rabbit 96%) allows for the use of this assay in humans and in animal models for the study of bone turnover, osteoporosis and inflammatory processes affecting the skeleton.
