The Bi-CAT ELISA is a two-plate enzyme immunoassay intended for the quantitative determination of epinephrine and norepinephrine in Plasma and Urine. Each catecholamine is measured independently on separate plates. Epinephrine and norepinephrine (along with the third catecholamine, dopamine) act as hormones and neurotransmitters throughout the body. The release of both epinephrine and norepinephrine is associated with the ""fight or flight response,"" which in effect, prepares the body for action by increasing heart rate, blood pressure and the mobilization of fuels, such as glucose and fatty acids, for use as energy. In turn, the actions of epinephrine and norepinephrine suppress non-emergency processes, such as digestion."
