The Bi-CAT (Research) RIA is a two-part radioimmunoassay intended for the quantitative determination of epinephrine and norepinephrine in epinephrine and norepinephrine in Biological Fluids and Tissue Homogenate using a sample volume of 1-100 ul, depending on sample type and expected concentrations. Each catecholamine is measured independently in separate experiments. Epinephrine and norepinephrine (along with the third catecholamine, dopamine) act as hormones and neurotransmitters throughout the body. The release of both epinephrine and norepinephrine is associated with the ""fight or flight response,"" which in effect, prepares the body for action by increasing heart rate, blood pressure and the mobilization of fuels, such as glucose and fatty acids, for use as energy. In turn, the actions of epinephrine and norepinephrine suppress non-emergency processes, such as digestion.- - For the quantitative determination of Epinephrine and Norepinephrine in plasma and urine."
