The presence of antibodies to alpha- lactalbumin is a common finding in patients with milk intolerance. Both IgG and IgA class antibodies may be detected. In infancy, cow’s milk protein intolerance is characterized by diarrhea, vomiting, colic and dermatitis. In older children and adults, symptoms such as hives, arthritis and eczema are also associated with immune reactions to milk proteins. Problems usually resolve once milk and milk products have been withdrawn from the patients diet.

The α-lactalbumin IgG kits are a rapid ELISA method for the detection of IgG antibodies to α-lactalbumin, one of the principal components of cow’s milk.
