Summary:
The Tri-CAT RIA is a three-part enzyme radioimmunoassay intended for the quantitative determination of epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine in Biological Fluids and Tissue Homogenate using small sample volumes. Each catecholamine is measured independently in separate experiments. Dopamine is a precursor to epinephrine and norepinephrine, but all three catecholamines act as hormones and/or neurotransmitters. Dopamine acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain, and low levels are often associated with Parkinson`s Disease. Dopamine levels may also be increased with tumors of the chromaffine system. Epinephrine and norepinephrine are involved with the response to chronic and acute stress, often termed the "fight or flight response."
