AHA/CDC Release Guidelines for hs-CRP
as a Risk Factor for CVD |
|
According to Clinical Laboratory News, there were more than
400,000 hs-CRP tests performed in the United States last year to
aid in the diagnosis of CVD1. Due to the increased volume of
testing and the recent surge in research focusing on CVD risk and
hs-CRP, the American Heart Association and the Centers for Disease
Control released a set of guidelines in the January 2003 edition
of
Circulation (2003; 107:499-511). These recent guidelines named hs-CRP as the only inflammatory marker that can be recommended for
use as an independent CVD risk factor. The guidelines also stated
the recommended cut-off points for determining a person’s risk of
developing CVD2:
<1 mg/l = Low Risk
1 –3 mg/l = Average Risk
>3 mg/l = High Risk
The ALPCO hs-CRP EIA (30-9710s) which is standardized to the CRM
470 reference material, offers a functional sensitivity of 0.124 ng/ml and a 2 hour and 15 minute incubation time. Click here to
