Scientist, Product Support and Improvement

Company Overview: ALPCO Diagnostics sells immunoassay kits (ELISA/RIA) as well as antibodies and recombinant proteins to the life science and medical diagnostic industries. Customer segments include clinical and hospital reference labs, Biotech and Pharmaceutical R&D labs and basic academic research labs.

Overview: The Product Support and Improvement Scientist position at ALPCO has responsibility for designing and supporting analytical programs for raw materials and kit components to ensure they are appropriately characterized. The position will also involve assisting in the development and implementation of new products and improvements to selected existing products and processes to ensure the methods are well defined, robust, scalable, and economical. The position will also undertake the evaluation of products and assist with the effective transfer of knowledge to manufacturing. The position has extensive interface across the Development and Manufacturing teams, particularly in support of protocol drafting and testing as analytical and QC release techniques and product are transferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Understands and develops purification and analytical methods for characterizing proteins and conjugates
  • Understands and applies knowledge of a variety of conjugation and plate coating chemistries and develops robust and scalable process methods, applying analytical and problem solving skills, using knowledge and application of established statistical and scientific techniques to design and perform complex experiments and analyze data
  • Prepares technical reports and oral presentations detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations
  • Applies project management skills and independently manages and organizes work around multiple and evolving priorities
  • Applies concepts, practices, and procedures in support of current GMP and ISO regulations, and implements these in support of product development and transfer processes
  • Works collaboratively across departments and teams and trains junior staff

Qualifications:

  • Education in biology, immunology, biochemistry or chemistry: MS with 5-7, or Ph.D. with 2-5 years experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of chromatography, protein purification/conjugation, and analytical method development
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with demonstrated knowledge and application of established statistical and scientific techniques (Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control) to design and perform complex experiments and analyze data
  • Excellent oral and written communications, facilitation/presentation skills, including preparation of technical reports detailing procedures, observations, and conclusions
  • Good project management skills with an ability to manage and organize work around multiple and changing priorities
  • Experience in biological sample handling, including blood and other tissues, is required
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures, including current GMP and ISO regulations, and an understanding of product transfer processes
  • Previous product development experience working within a quality system and experience with ELISA products preferred
  • Experience in training junior staff is desirable

Quality Systems Manager/Supervisor

Overview: The Manager/Supervisor of Quality Systems (QS) assures that products, processes, facilities and systems conform to ALPCO quality systems and governmental regulations. This position will help develop, implement and coordinate product quality assurance programs to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products at ALPCO. The QS Manager/supervisor will also be involved in coordinating the review and maintenance of ALPCO’s Quality and Regulatory documents, and will support implementation and management of a Quality Management System in coordination with other departments. This position will have responsibility for assuring that ALPCO Quality System requirements are effectively identified and established, will implement and maintain an Equipment Calibration program, and ensure that all systems are compliant with current GMP and other regulatory requirements. In addition, the position will have responsibility for developing budgets and monitoring expenditures.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads initiatives to establish and review quality assurance programs across departments and functions
  • Coordinates product quality functions and operations across and within departments, to ensure that responsibilities and procedures for attaining QS objectives are met, leads QS management meetings to review and report on the ALPCO Product QS
  • Manages internal quality audits, as required, to determine QS effectiveness and to assure compliance with the established regulatory requirements
  • Participates in the documenting correction, and prevention of customer complaint investigations and evaluates possible medical device reporting, as required., Facilitates all external customer matters relating to ALPCO QS
  • Responsible for review of product quality prior to release for shipment, approves or restricts shipment based upon product quality criterion or regulatory requirements; escalates product quality issues to the corrective or preventive action process for resolution, as necessary
  • Coordinates and reviews employee training and understanding of all current QS requirements
  • Reviews and approves documents and procedures for application accuracy

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in the Sciences or a related discipline and 5-8 years (Supervisor) or 10+ years (Manager) relevant QS experience
  • Must have working knowledge and a sound understanding with FDA QSR's (Title 21 Part 820) and ISO 13485
  • Experience with FDA, Customer and ISO audits; preferably as the company designee
  • Good project management skills with an ability to manage and organize work around multiple and changing priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communications, facilitation/presentation skills, including preparation of reports detailing procedures, observations, and conclusions
  • Previous laboratory experience and understanding of work flow in a Immunoassay based product environment is preferred
  • Experience in training and supervisor junior staff is desirable

Technical Sales Associate — Diabetes & Obesity Research Products

Company overview: ALPCO Diagnostics provides immunoassay based products to the life science research and medical diagnostic industries. Customer segments include routine clinical labs, biotech/pharmaceutical R&D labs, CRO's and academic research institutions. The company is a family owned and operated business that employs a hybrid distribution/manufacturing model via products sourced from organic R&D and production operations, as well as externally sourced products in the form of either OEM “ALPCO branded” products and/or products sourced and sold via distribution under the original manufacturer's label.

Position description: The Technical Sales Associate develops new prospects as well as supports and interacts with existing customers to increase and/or maximize the sales ALPCO's diabetes and obesity related research products. This person is responsible for concentrating his/her sales efforts and activities in the Biotech, Pharmaceutical and CRO market segment. Success will be measured against an established gross profit sales quota.

Responsibilities:

  • Be accountable for maintaining existing customers as well as establishing new key customer with the goal of increasing immunoassay sales and/or services in the North America Biopharmaceutical research market.
  • Prospect and cultivate new customers by attending conferences and tradeshows, following up on existing leads and literature references to re-establish and/or expand business, additionally, fielding technical and pricing inquiries to identifying customer's technical needs and creatively offering mutually beneficial solutions. Field visits as necessary.
  • Maintains relationships and favorable contacts with current customers and accounts. Provides support to customers, resolves customer technical inquiries, fulfill questions and requests for new pricing in conjunction with Product Support, Customer Service and Marketing Departments.
  • Provide market feedback for potential improvements in product enhancements and brand recognition to improve customer satisfaction, product utility and to maximize product life-cycle sales.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor degree in the biological sciences with 5+ years laboratory experience or a graduate degree and 1+ years of laboratory experience.
  • Proven track record of successful sales experience is an advantage, but not required, if gregarious, an innate self motivator, a team minded contributor and in position of strong laboratory experience.
  • Fluency in understanding of scientific methods, analyzing data and reading sciences publications.
  • Work experience specific to Diabetes and/or Obesity research fields a plus.
  • Must be capable of multitasking and be an effective time manager. A certain degree of creativity and independence is required.
  • Travel required (5-15%)

Product Support Specialist

Position Description: The Product Support Specialist (PSS) is a pre/post sales product support role within ALPCO's Customer Service Department. This person is responsible for first identifying and then meeting the customer's needs by acting as the liaison between the customer and ALPCO's internal and external personnel (sales, order processing, accounting, logistics, manufacturing, external vendors, etc.). Each PSS will have general responsibilities for particular segments of ALPCO's customer base (Clinical, Industrial or Academic).

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the initial point of contact for pre and post sale product inquiries.
  • Provide technical assistance and assay trouble shooting in the product support role.
  • Conduct product evaluations to formulate a technical assessment of any new and/or revised products as appropriate.
  • Conduct assay trouble shooting to confirm or refute product failures from the field.
  • Act as first-line of technical support for organic product line and customer interface when internal R&D resources are required for issue resolution.
  • Act as first-line of technical support and liaison and/or interface with ALPCO's vendors for any inquiries related to externally sourced products.
  • Properly document all product inquiries and complaints in ALPCO's AIC system.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and reports of ALPCO-80 product inquiries and/or technical complaints toward product enhancement consideration efforts.
  • Successfully recognize sales opportunities and funnel them to ALPCO's sales department (for organic products) and/or marketing manager (for all non-organic products).
  • Travel (some overnight 5-10%) for customer demonstrations, tradeshow exhibitions, strategic sales presentations and technical service visits.
  • Provide customers with product information, pre/post sales support and technical advice.
  • Provide market feedback to sales, marketing and operations as appropriate.\
  • Conduct customer service functions in a support role to the customer service associates (order entry/processing, inventory availability, order status, etc.) when resources are limited to aid in meeting customer demands (short staff, etc.).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must possess strong listening and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all personality types.
  • Process focused, detail oriented, organized and thorough
  • Strong problem solving ability and/or data analysis
  • 3-5 years sales or customer-care experience and solid business acumen is desirable.
  • BS degree in biology, biochemistry, or 3+ years experience in an assay development or diagnostic/product related field.
  • Sound understanding of immunoassay based products and adequate laboratory skills to perform assays in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions for use.
  • Must be capable of multitasking and be an effective time manager.
